Welcome to first grade at the Center! Students will enjoy a thematic, integrated curriculum full of music, hands-on activities, and interactive games. Our small classes provide a wonderful caring environment where students can learn together.

By the end of the year, your child will be able to fluently read texts using their knowledge of phonics, high-frequency words, and reading strategies.

They will learn to count and compare numbers to 120 and solve addition and subtraction problems within 20. Your child will learn about place value and how to compare two-digit numbers. They will describe and draw shapes, measure objects, tell time to the half-hour, and find mystery numbers in equations.

You’ll have guidance and checkpoints all along the way as we work together to teach your child the foundations of reading, writing, spelling, and math. We will have a take-home binder that will facilitate learning between the Center and your school at home. We will provide clear goals, structured activities, frequent assessments, and consistent communication.

The First-Grade curriculum has been custom built by our dedicated and experienced teachers to keep students on track with milestones while also allowing for pacing that fits the needs of the individual. Before classes begin, parents are required to attend an orientation where the teacher will provide the scope and sequence for the year, details on-at-home learning, and answer parent questions.

Students will need to bring a backpack, water bottle, and snack to class each day. They will need to dress comfortably for outside playtime. We are so excited to work together as a team to encourage, challenge, and empower your student on their learning journey!
