SAXON MATH 5

Saxon Math books teach math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts.

Building upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 6/5 textbook covers concepts such as the order of operations; geometry and measurement; integers; divisibility concepts; ratios; statistics and probability; prime and composite numbers; patterns and sequences; and powers and roots.

Students will specifically learn about making a multiplication table, adding/subtracting fractions with a common denominator, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, perimeter, simple probability, decimal parts of a meter, reciprocals, volume, square roots, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and more.

REQUIRED

Students must take a placement test after registering for this class (click). The results must be turned in at the front desk of the Center. The math teacher will evaluate the results to make sure that your student is ready for Math 5.

REMEMBER- We are a team! CHE is not the school. You are!

Parents will oversee all homework grading according to the guidelines, correcting, and administer any take home tests. *Grading of homework should occur daily. At no time should a student fail to turn in graded homework for 2 weeks in a row. In-class parent meetings will be scheduled as needed to instruct on grading procedures.

As per the CHE covenant, failure to comply with the requirements of the 5th grade math class could result in the student failing Math 5 and not being allowed to take Saxon Math 6 at the Center. We want your student to be successful! Help us to help you have a fabulous 5th grade year! We love helping you!
