In this class, students will learn research and communication skills as well as build their confidence in speaking in front of others.

The class will cover several units including effective public speaking, 1 on 1 (Lincoln Douglas style) debate, partner/group debate, and will end the year with a Model UN project.

Skills learned in this class include clear communication, research, critical thinking, active listening, extensive note taking, and cross examination skills.

Students should be prepared to communicate a viewpoint on a controversial subject with which they might not agree.

Students will need the ability to communicate with their group members outside of class, as well as send documents to the teachers electronically. They will also need to research their topics through online sources.

This class welcomes all students that are interested, regardless of their public speaking comfort level. The environment will be very supportive, and students will be empowered to increase their speaking skills no matter how beginner or advanced they may be.
