This course will develop and improve public speaking, argumentation, and critical-thinking skillsin various communication and debate settings. Students will deliver speeches and participate in various types of in-class debates on various topics.


This class is intended for mature middle schoolers.


Students will learn the fundamentals of verbal and nonverbal communication, physical and vocal delivery, as well as identifying logical fallacies.


Students will practice researching, structuring, and organizing information effectively for formal debate. Writing, listening, and note-taking skills will also be emphasized and developed.


The technical side of speaking will be emphasized; therefore, constructive criticism will be provided weekly.


Students will need access to a computer to turn in assignments via Google doc’s.


Supplies Needed:

Index Cards, highlighters, spiral notebook, pencils, 3inch binder
