Welcome to the Kinder and 1st Grade Combination Class at CHE! This class is designed to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment for both kindergarten and first grade students who are being homeschooled.  Our goal is to create a cooperative learning community where students can develop academic skills, socialize with peers, and explore various subjects.  We aim to keep the minds of little ones engaged with a thematic, integrated curriculum, full of hands-on activities.  Our classes are small.  Therefore, we can provide a loving environment where children can learn together in group discussions and small center rotations.

This combination class is designed to be a fun learning environment! Here's an example of our day!

- Drop Off/Handwriting Lessons

- Circle Time

- Kinder Math Curriculum Group / 1st Grade Math Centers

- 1st Grade Math Curriculum Group / Kinder Math Centers

- Recess

- Kinder LA Curriculum Group / 1st Grade LA Centers

- 1st Grade LA Curriculum Group / Kinder LA Centers

- Snack

- Art, Science, or Writing Activity

- Dismissal

After enrollment you will be contacted by the teacher, Mrs. Zappia, to schedule a placement evaluation to determine if your child will learn from the kindergarten, or the first grade curriculum for the class year. Don't buy the curriculum until then!

The week before classes begin, there will be a required orientation where the teacher will provide the scope and sequence for the year, details on-at-home learning and answer parent questions.

Each first-grade student must bring a backpack, water bottle (with no-spill lid), and snack/lunch daily to class.  We encourage dressing comfortably for outside playtime.

Parental involvement is crucial for the success of homeschooling.  Parents are encouraged to actively participate in their child's learning by providing support, reviewing and completing homework assignments, and reinforcing concepts at home.  Children will have math and literacy homework of approximately 90 minutes per week (30 minutes each day we are not in class).  Each student will have a take-home folder facilitating learning between the Center and your family's personal homeschool journey.  Reminder: according to the Center's Covenant, parents/guardians must agree to do the required homework and respond to all emails/texts from teachers and the Center to be a good fit for classes.
