This high school chemistry course will introduce your student to the basic concepts of chemistry from a biblical worldview. Upon completion of this course, your student should have both the skills and content necessary to succeed in college level science courses and an understanding of chemistry that will allow them to apply basic concepts to everyday life. This course emphasizes theoretical and practical application of chemistry concepts, so your student should expect an emphasis on lab work and problem solving.
In this course your student will be working through 17 modules that introduce how elements and atomic particles behave and mix in God’s created world. We will explore how these atomic changes can better our lives through technology such as medicine, food production, energy capture and water and air resources.
Expectations
Students will have roughly 4-5 hours of homework a week including reading the text, watching supplemental videos, completing take-home tests, working on projects, writing lab reports, and studying for quizzes. This course has a supplemental video component, and students will be expected to have internet access at home to watch the required videos.
Students and parents must stay up to date with Google Classroom to make sure students are keeping up with assignments. Students will be expected to turn in assignments in class.
Cell phones are a safety hazard in the chemistry lab and will not be allowed.
Prerequisites
Chemistry requires an understanding of basic algebra. Completion of Algebra 1 is required for this course.
Chemistry is considered an upper level (10th-12th grade) science course and requires the completion of Biology with lab (or equivalent life science with lab course) prior to enrollment.
