Five in a Row is a relaxed and engaging literature-based class designed to grow a love for books and learning for students in grades K to 2. This one-hour weekly class follows the heart of the Five in a Row approach, using rich picture books as the foundation for meaningful learning across subjects.

Students typically explore one carefully chosen picture book each week. At times, a story may be extended over two weeks to allow for deeper discussion and to thoughtfully explore all of the learning opportunities the book offers. Lessons are customized for a one-hour class and encourage children to slow down, notice details, ask questions, and make connections.

Through each book, students will explore early concepts in reading and listening comprehension, art and creativity, simple science and nature, geography and social studies, and math concepts. Children will also practice sharing ideas and thinking together in a supportive group setting.

There is no homework, and reading and writing are gently encouraged during class, making this a great fit for emerging readers and writers. This class focuses on joyful learning, meaningful conversations, and building confidence through literature.
