Welcome to Kindergarten at the Center!  Students will enjoy a thematic, integrated curriculum full of hands-on activities to keep little minds engaged. Our small classes provide a wonderful caring environment where students can learn together through large group lessons and small center rotations.

Kindergarten will be using The Good and The Beautiful curriculum for math, language arts and handwriting.  Please have these materials purchased before the first day of school as we will be using them in the classroom and at home.

By the end of the year, your child will be able to read simple texts using their knowledge of phonics, high-frequency words, and reading strategies. We will start the year with a quick review of letter sounds and formation, then progress into CVCs, blends, sight words, building words, and writing simple sentences. They will learn to count and compare numbers to 100, solve addition and subtraction problems within 20, counting money, and telling time to hour and half hour.

You’ll have guidance and checkpoints all along the way as we work together to teach your child the foundations of reading and math. Each student will have a take-home binder that will facilitate learning between the Center and your school at home. We will provide clear goals, structured activities, frequent assessments, and consistent communication. Children will have math & literacy homework of roughly 90 minutes per week (30 minutes for each day not in class) sent home weekly.

Before classes begin, parents are required to attend an orientation where the teacher will provide the scope and sequence for the year, details on-at-home learning and answer parent questions. Each student will also need to have an assessment scheduled to confirm they are ready for the class and identify their baseline.

Students will need to bring a backpack, water bottle (with no-spill lid), and snack to class each day. They will need to dress comfortably for outside playtime. I am so excited to work together as a team to encourage, challenge, and empower your student on their learning journey!
