Intro to Robotics is a fun, hands-on course exploring robotics, construction, and autonomous programming. This hands-on STEM class combines Lego building elements, easy to use hardware and Lego Spike Prime coding language based on Scratch. The class will consist of a combination of project-based labs and extended home learning.
Class Structure:
We’ll being the year with entry level projects to familiarize students with the materials. Students will work in teams using critical thinking, troubleshooting & problem-solving skills. Project difficulty will increase as students progress through the course.Â
We will also study the science behind the projects, real-world robotics applications, impact of automation & the future of robotics. Students will have the opportunity to continue learning through homework videos and assignments. The class grade will consist of group projects (in class) and additional written assignments. Â
This course does not require any previous knowledge of robotics or coding.Â
Learning Objectives:Â
Apply the Engineering Design Process.
Program robots to perform multi-step tasks using logic, variables, and sensors.
Explain the science behind movement & power.Â
Analyze the societal & ethical impacts of robotics and automation. Collaborate in teams to troubleshoot mechanical & software bugs.
Maintain an Engineering Notebook documenting design choices.Â
Requirements:
Students must have access to google classroom to access assignments and links to class materials and videos.
Students must have access to YouTube and the internet to watch assigned videos (All videos will be linked in Google Classroom).

High School students are advised to spend 2-4 hours per week on homework and This time allocation is considered appropriate to ensure a balance between academic responsibilities and other extracurricular activities. It allows students to consolidate their learning, complete assignments, and develop a deeper understanding of the subjects they are studying. However, it is important to note that individual student needs may vary, and some students may require more or less time to complete their homework effectively. Homework will not be excessive, but please plan to spend time on this class outside of the classroom time.Â
Materials Fee includes the classroom usage of multiple Lego Scratch Prime sets, and laptops.Â
