Joel Pyron*

Joel received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree (vocal emphasis) from the University of Oklahoma, Master of Music Degree in vocal performance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and has done additional studies in vocal pedagogy. He began his teaching career as a public school choir teacher in Wilburton, Oklahoma. At the same time, he also served various churches as an interim music director. Following a move to Houston, Texas in 1989 to pursue performance opportunities, Joel, along with his wife, Rene’, began teaching private lessons which quickly grew into a full time job that he has enjoyed ever since.

Joel now has over 25 years of teaching experience in public schools, private schools, colleges, and churches. He has taught voice, piano, guitar, choir, music theory, and other subjects since he and his wife began homeschooling their 2 children. B.C. (Before Children), Joel also performed with the Fort Worth Opera, Regal Opera, and other local venues.

Joel began playing guitar while in high school, using it primarily as an accompaniment instrument for singing. He also did some elective coursework in guitar while in college. After sometime away from playing, he returned to the instrument in the mid-90’s when a guitar instructor was needed at FBCKeller Fine Arts Academy where he continues to teach private lessons in voice, piano, and guitar.

The Pyrons have been homeschooling since the 2001. It is their desire to equip children with excellence for God’s service while also helping others do the same.
