This class, taught by Tanya Stuart, will be a comprehensive study of World History from the fall of the Roman Empire through the Renaissance and Reformation. Using Notgrass World History, Book 2, students examine the development of Medieval Europe, the Byzantine Empire, Islamic civilization, and major cultures in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The course explores political, religious, social, and cultural changes, including the rise of feudalism, the growth of the Christian church, the spread of Islam, the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, and early global exploration. Emphasis is placed on historical understanding, primary sources, geography, and the connections between historical events and worldviews.
